Ciao a tutti!
Since we are talking about Italian food with the Grade 3/4s and the 5/6s, I thought you might be interested in learning something more about it! As you may know, Italy is a very peculiar place: each region has its own traditions and its own special dishes. Italian food is well known all over the world and Italians are very proud of it. That’s the reason why we talk about it most of the time, especially when we are eating!!! But, what do we usually eat? I say “usually” because everyone has different habits. In the morning, if we have breakfast at home, we usually drink caffelatte (hot milk with coffee) or tea and we eat biscuits or a piece of cake. We love to have breakfast at the bar (your café) though! At the bar, we usually have cappuccino or caffè (coffee) and cornetto. Lunch is very big in Italy. It’s the most consistent meal of the day. During the week, we have primo, secondo and contorno. As a primo, we have pasta; as a secondo we have meat, fish or cheese and as a contorno we have vegetables, raw or boiled. On the table, there is always fresh bread. On Sundays, we have a bigger lunch. Before primo, we might have antipasto which consists, basically, of appetizers such as olives, grissini, prosciutto and formaggio (cheese). At the end of the meal, we usually have a dolce (dessert) or a gelato. After lunch, we always have espresso!!! Dinner is, instead, a light meal. We have dinner at around 8ish and we eat a secondo (meat, fish or cheese) with some vegetables. Buon appetito!! Giulia. |
