Questa settimana - 12 giugno
On Friday 26 June, the last day of term, we will be celebrating “carnevale”. Carnevale is an Italian celebration which is usually held before Easter to mark the beginning of Lent and the arrival of Spring. Our carnevale will celebrate the end of semester. In the carnevale tradition we would like students to dress in fancy dress (Italian theme if possible) and wear a mask to disguise themselves. Carnevale will start at 9.15am in the school hall. There will be a short concert performance and poetry reading by students, followed by a parade, which will conclude at about 10.15. Parents and friends are welcome to attend. After recess students will be watching a Commedia dell’ Arte performance, “The Greatest Pie In the World” (Cultural Fusion). Commedia dell’Arte is a unique theatrical tradition which originated in Venice and which uses a combination of stock characters, parody and satire, exaggerated and stylised movements and improvisation. If you would like to perform at carnevale you can join in the 1/2 Italian singing group, the 3 - 6 Italian Club or you can recite a poem. For more information see our Carnevale page. |
